During my ED, I was so serious. I had no fun and whenever somebody would want to do hang out, I would make up an excuse as to why I couldn’t go. My idea of fun was sitting at home, looking at new recipes online. Recipes that I would probably never even make because of the calories. And if I really wanted to get wild, I would go out for some frozen yogurt…by myself of course. Now that I have seen how beautiful life is, I now realize how so dang serious I used to be. I needed to loosen up! I thought that I had to be the perfect example when it came to school and basketball. Then I would be able to get a scholarship. And we all know how that ended. There are so many reasons to smile and laugh.
And really..how can you not laugh at some of the things out there?
Now, I can’t imagine taking a picture with a “normal” smile….Or a normal pose…
I even let loose…
My favorite way to be less serious is to add a little color…
And give a thumbs up every once in awhile…
Being serious is no fun. Nobody wants to be around a Debbie Downer. I have learned this lesson the hard way. I have made friends and lost friends because of this. But now, I laugh at every situation possible.
Life is too beautiful and short to go through the motions everyday with the same scowl on your face. Smile…not only does it make you feel better, but it makes the ones around you happier too. ____________________________________________________
Quick question: So I donated blood today (woot woot. no passing out) and when I asked the nurse about running the half marathon on Sunday, she didn’t recommend it. I was super bummed when she told me this because I was reallyyyy looking forward to this race. It goes through San Francisco and I think it’s going to be gorgeous. Plus, it’s not like it’s my first half marathon. I wouldn’t plan on PRing or pushing myself too hard. I just really want to do this race. I already asked this on Twitter today, but what are your guy’s thoughts?
Love this! Totally brought a smile to my face!! That is to funny about the burglar!! AHAHAHAHA!
I say go for it!! Just make sure you hydrate properly tomorrow and maybe bring a snack or two for the run.
I hate to say it, but I don’t give blood anymore. I pass out every time:(
AHHH crazy face pictures are my middle name!! Girl you look like SO much fun, I have a feeling we’d totally be pals 😉
I’m soooo glad you’re at a better place in your life now, happiness is far better than serious boringness haha
Awwww I’m SO Glad you’re happier now!!! It sounds like you’ve made it through quite a journey! 🙂
I’m not sure about the running. Maybe just take a shot at it and see? And stop if you get light headed??
Thanks for this haley….I needed to read something happy! just what I needed, this post totally lifted my mood just now!
I say go ahead and run the half. take tomorrow as a rest day, and honestly you’ll probably want to eat extra carbs. If you really really rest (stay off your feet, nap, sleep) and eat enough and drink enough h20, you should be fine. BUT if you wake up saturday morning feeling fatigued…don’t do it. so kinda prep for it but also play it by ear! I hope it goes well!!
This is awesome. I do agree. Being fun and humerous is the way to be. I’m really glad I’ve found your blog! 🙂
Um about the half-I would jog a couple 2-3 miles tomorrow and gauge from there. I have gotten blood taken during season before and it’s hard but other times I forgot that I did!
Ahahaha, that burglar was not very smart at all! 😀
Great post though,so true! During my ED,I couldn’t laugh about anything which is totally untypical for me. Now,I want to savor every darn minute of my life,so I try to smile as often as possible… And I can tell you: I look a lot better with a smile on my lips than with a grumpy face! 😉
Concerning the race,I’d say: Take a rest on Friday and if you wake up on Saturday and feel like “WOHOO,let’s do the race!” – do it! But in case you should notice you’re not feeling so great whilst running, stop or do the half. In the end, your health is what matters – and your happiness!
Awwwww your pics are so cute hun 🙂
I already shared my thoughts on twitter! I say go for it, but take it easy and feel it out.
I definitely can relate to being so serious with the eating disorder. I still don’t act as silly as I used to or laugh as much, but part of that is because I’ve matured a lot too. I let loose a lot easier though!
I used to be the exact same way! I could never really have fun with my friends because my mind was always thinking about food and calories. I’m so glad I can let loose again! 🙂
Haha that article about the burglar made me laugh!
Good post! I catch myself this way sometimes and realize it takes so much more energy and is so draining. Have a great weekend and keep on smiling 🙂
That was…. so me…. and now for the last two years or so since I simply got my life back the difference is insane. I’m a total hot mess and all over the place and wouldnt have it any other way!
What an awesome post – you have a gorgeous smile so go on and enjoy life 🙂
I am a nurse and I would say see how you feel. Today and tomorrow take a rest day, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate yourself. When you wake up on sunday see how you feel. If you feel fatigued at all, don’t do it. Don’t push your body if it’s not ready (you may end up passing out or something worse). But I think you should be all set on Sunday! 🙂
I know exactly what you mean about acting so serious during ED days!
This totally made me laugh, those pictures are hilarious! I say go for it, just be mindful of what your body is telling you. 🙂 Good luck and kick some booty!
I say “DO IT!”.
Awesome pink vans!
I love the post. I used to be pretty serious, too, and I still am to a certain amount but not that bad. I’m serious when I need to be.
I love the pictures!
LOVE that burglar story.. Sounds like something that would happen to me if I wanted to be a criminal mastermind. Glad you’re able to be less serious now! Sometimes I’m too serious.. But usually then I’ll do something ridiculous to make up for it. 🙂
I love the photo’s you posted! Couldn’t agree with you more, smiling and just being happy makes life so much easier 🙂
