the calm before the storm

One day people! One dayyyyy. Marathon time is here, whether I like it or nor. Today was spent hanging out with the parents and resting. We started out the day by going out to breakfast. We ended up at a place I have been wanting to try since seeing it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives called Worth Our Weight. This place is really one of a kind. The owner helps underprivileged young people who want to pursue a career in the food industry. There is no set price on any of the food. Instead, you pay how much you think the meal is worth. We started breakfast with some pastries and fruit. I ate all the fruit of course and the pastries were pretty darn tasty! (This was a huge step by the way. Before, I would have not gotten close to the pastries). For my entree, my mom and I split blue cornmeal pancakes and veggies with a poached egg. The pancakes were melt in your mouth good! I loved every bite. The veggie/egg was good too. There was some sort of salsa-ish thing on top that I could have eaten with a spoon. I have no idea what was in it, but it was very addicting. (Sorry for no pics!)

After breakfast, we headed over to a farmers market that was going on nearby. Here are some of the goods that was there.

purple bell peppers!

pet rocks

lemon cucumbers

squash galore

pumpkin! pumpkin! pumpkin!

my mom ended up getting this for my aunt

Besides the last thing, I didn’t end up getting anything. I had the big haul yesterday from Trader Joes and Costco so I should be good for a couple days 😉

After the farmers market, it was time to pick up my bib number and shirt!

Then of course I had to get some other stuff! It was a good deal so hey, why not?

-Last year’s half marathon race shirt – $5 <–dri fit and long sleeve

-Beer glass – $5 <–since I don’t drink, this will be perfect for smoothies

-Nike tempo running shorts – $15 <–so excited for these!

My parents wanted to go wine tasting and I was super tired so I headed back to my dorm for a nap and some lunch.

blueberry oatmeal mess (this is a recycled pic, so no orange)

Insert 3 hour nap here. I ❤ naps.

After my nap, I showered and had some snacks:

-banana with justins maple almond butter

-bowl of cheerios x 2

And now all of my stuff for tomorrow is in place!

-my fav Nike free runs

-Under Armor running shorts

-shirt (Not sure which one I want to wear yet. The one on the left has the sleeves cut off and the one of the right is dri fit.)

-Garmin Forerunner (I finally named mine! Tara gave me this idea. His name is George. George Forerunner.)

-iPod shuffle

I am so ready to do this!!!

Now I am off to dinner with my parents. I’ll probably get some pasta. The place has brown rice pasta so I’m stokeddddd. Next time I post, I will officially be a marathoner. Ahhhhh! George and I are gonna rock 26.2 miles 🙂

Any tips for my first marathon??

  1. How exciting! My brother-in-law (who has run dozens of marathons) has been training me for my first half marathon. He says the most important thing, is “go out slow” …don’t give into the adrenaline at the start.
Advice that a friend gave me was “don’t poop your pants during the race”.

Both are good words of wisdom.

  2. 15 dollar tempo shorts?! Girl, why didn’t you buy me some!? I would have paid you back. Heck, while you’re at it, send me a pet rock, because those are freakin’ adorable too.
GOOD LUCK TOMORROWWW!! Oh my gosh, you’re going to do amazing! I can’t even fathom running that far… I haven’t even gone half that far in one shot. I can’t wait to read your recap!! Kick some trash out there 🙂

  3. I’d go with the dry fit.
First marathon: Don’t do anything new- eat something you know works in the morning and don’t freak out. Remember that much of the battle is mental. Have fun!

  4. Hey I just found your blog and am popping by to say hello!
Good luck on your marathon, I’ve never ran one so I don’t have any tips. But I’m sure you’ll rock it. Good luck!
